Quality Renovations teamed up with Crossroads Church to support “Project One”. “Project One” was started after Crossroads Church attended their first trip to the Hurricane Katrina area in 2005. One of the people on their trip, Scott Wilson, had the idea that if so many people from our church, were able to go to Mississippi and help clean up and rebuild (about 300 people on 13 total trips), that we should be able to get 500 people in Loveland to help the needy in our area. As a result, Scott and a group of people started “Project One” – one day, one project. In May of 2006 was their first Project One. Crossroads Church is coming up on their 10 year anniversary.
The 2015 “Project One” Recipient was Colleen, a single lady, that was unable to keep up with her yard work, and needed covered parking for her car. Quality Renovations & Roofing had a crew of 15 volunteers. A week before the “Project One” Day, we ordered materials and poured caissons. The day of “Project One”, we built a carport on the side of her house, installed siding & tied the existing roof to the carport. We also cleaned flower beds, weeded a garden area, installed a fence & landscaping stones, mowed her lawn, painted lawn furniture & cleaned an outdoor shed.
People can nominate themselves, a neighbor, or someone they know who has a need. The person does not need to belong to our church. At the same time we send out a solicitation for crew leaders from our church. The first year Crossroads Church did around 55 projects. This last year they did 75 projects and have done as many as 110 projects in one year’s event. Crossroads Church had about 900 participants this last year and have had as many as 1300 in one year.
They review the nominations and make selections based on needs, medical condition, single moms, low income, etc. Crossroads Church has also done projects for schools and non-profit organizations. They ask church members for project sponsorship’s, about $300 per site/project. They also ask all participants to donate $25. This helps pay for materials, a concert and cookout after Project One in the evening and for T-shirts. There total budget has been in the $25,000-35,000 range per year. They normally don’t like to turn down any projects but having enough crew leaders has been a limiting factor the last few years.
